Maria Zoetebier – Lower Hutt
Our family came from The Netherlands to New Zealand in January 1993.
I have been raising my granddaughter from the age of 2 months – she is now.
It took 3 years to get additional guardianship. When I took her to playcentre where I read something about GRG and I found a place to go to their meetings. I loved being with other grandparents caring for their grandchildren.
Last year I became a Support Group Coordinator. In October we had our first GRG meeting. There were grandparents I already knew; it was great to see new people.
Sharing with each other was a great feeling that we were not on our alone. We all knew what it was to have good times and days that made it so difficult. I love being a Support Group Coordinator.
